About Oliver’s Sportfishing Adventures
A Lifetime of Fishing on the British Columbia Coast
Fishing isn’t something I picked up later—it’s something I grew up in.
Raised in a commercial fishing family on the British Columbia coast, I learned early how these waters work—how salmon move, how conditions change, and how to stay on fish when it matters. That foundation turned into a career, and over the past 25+ years I’ve worked as a sportfishing guide targeting salmon, halibut, and lingcod across the BC coast.
Experience That Goes Beyond One Fishery
Over the years, I’ve guided in a range of environments—from remote northern pike lodges in Manitoba to a wilderness fly fishing lodge on the Dean River.
The Dean River is one of the most respected fisheries in the province, attracting experienced fly anglers from around the world targeting Chinook salmon and steelhead. Working in that environment—where expectations are high and conditions are demanding—helped shape how I approach guiding today.
It’s not just about catching fish—it’s about running a trip properly from start to finish.
Why We Fish Out of Winter Harbour
There are a lot of places to fish on the BC coast—but this one stands out.
The continental shelf sits closer to land here than almost anywhere else on Vancouver Island, creating what’s often referred to as a natural salmon highway. Bait gathers, salmon move through consistently, and it creates reliable opportunities for multiple species.
It’s also remote, less pressured, and still feels like real West Coast fishing—rugged, quiet, and productive.

Our Approach to Guided Fishing in British Columbia
Fishing changes every day.
Conditions shift. Fish move. And the best results come from adapting—not following a fixed plan.
Our approach is simple:
- Put in the time where it matters
- Stay on productive water
- Adjust based on real conditions
It’s not complicated—but it takes experience to do it consistently.

Unreal Fishing Trip with Oliver!
Four of us went on a trip to Winter Harbour with Oliver Sport Fishing, and it was absolutely unreal. We limited out on everything — springs, coho, halibut, and lingcod — and came back with multiple coolers packed with fish.
Oliver was an incredible guide: super knowledgeable, and a great teacher. He made the whole experience fun and stress-free, whether we were battling big halibut or cruising for salmon.
If you’re looking for the ultimate fishing trip, this is it. We’ll be talking about this one for a long time. We have already secured our spot for next year. Highly recommend!
